My Job

I'm really not feeling motivated to blog tonight, but figured I'd at least make an effort...

Anyways, I work full-time with 2-year-olds at the daycare in my church. It has its ups and downs, good days and bad days... I hate the whining, the tantrums, the screaming, the teething process (biting, grumpiness, etc...), the snotty noses, the really gross dirty diapers lol... But it makes it all worth it when I get to snuggle with my kids, when I get excited happy faces and big hugs when I walk in the door, when I see my kids making progress and learning how to do new things. That is why I love my job =)

Relationship Status Update

Okay, so here goes... I have a girlfriend. Her name is Alisha, we met online and we've been officially together since last Sunday evening. This is a first same-sex relationship for both of us, so we're both still kinda getting used to the change.

She is 21, she goes to CMU taking Psychology. We had a bunch of common interests, but I'm pretty excited about music and photography! =)

This girl is great, I really like her a lot! =) I thought it'd be really hard to tell people, but as it turns out, people respond pretty positively, and the more people I tell the easier it becomes.

So... I told my mom tonight... That was tough... I wanted to tell her yesterday, I stopped by her place after church, but she wasn't home and so I headed home cuz Sherrie was staying with me and she was patiently waiting for me lol... So I called my mom tonight, and we chatted about stuff, then this is how the conversation went:

Me: "So, you know my friend Alisha?"
Mom: "Yeah..."
Me: "..........We're dating....."
Mom: "...Can't say I'm surprised..."
Me: "I wasn't sure if you would've been... I wanted to tell you yesterday, but you weren't home, and I wasn't sure how long you'd be out so I left."
Mom: "*crying* I gotta go... Bye. *click*"

So... it didn't go as well as I'd hoped... I'm more concerned for her, because she was crying. I've only ever heard/seen her cry twice. I hope she has someone she's able to talk to, to let her emotions and thoughts out to, cuz she certainly didn't seem to want to talk to me... Which I can understand, I know she'll need some space to process it...

*1.5 hours later*

So I just had a good phone chat with Brandy, we talked about what's been going on, and it was just good to have someone to talk to. Sherrie had called me too earlier but I was literally unable to speak when she called, and I haven't called her back yet... Probably won't tonight, just cuz it's late... I am looking forward to seeing Alisha in about an hour, I was chatting with her while she was on break at work, and she is coming over for the night tonight just to make sure I'm okay.

As for now, I think I'm going to post this then chill for a bit before Alisha comes over...

My Inspiration

Hmm... Well, there are a lot of people who inspire me. The biggest one would be Jesus. He was such a radical, surprising people with how different and yet simple and loving he was. Everything he taught, everything he did, was all about love. It is this love that inspires me to live, inspires me to love others!

Lately I've also been inspired by Alisha. She hasn't pushed me at all, she's actually encouraged me to take my time in telling people about us, but she's just so awesome that I just can't contain it and I want the world to know!

Last but not least, I find a lot of inspiration in music. (I know music isn't a person, but hey it's my blog so I'll write what I want... =P) Sometimes from lyrics, sometimes from rhythms, sometimes from melody or harmony, sometimes from hearing someone or a group making music together, like at church. I am often moved by music in some way or another. Sometimes it inspires me to play my own music on my guitar, sometimes it inspires me to write, sometimes it just inspires me to sing along, but either way, music is my inspiration.

My Dreams

Wow, this could be a tough one... It could go two ways I suppose: either what I dream while I sleep at night, or what I dream of for the future.

Well, my night dreams are usually pretty weird, never make sense and could never actually happen in reality. It's when I get those very real dreams when I wonder if they're dreams at all... This one time a few years ago I had a dream about a boy that came to visit me at work when I still worked at Sal's. He sat at the counter and I gave him a bowl of soup cuz he looked hungry. I stood there in the kitchen thinking, "What's his name?" and immediately I heard "Arminio." Then I asked, "How old is he?" and again, I heard "16." I asked, "Where is he from?" and I heard, "Sudan." Then I woke up, and I was kinda freaked out cuz it was the first dream I'd had that was more like a vision.

There was another time I dreamed I was with Georgio and we were being held hostage with a bunch of other people on a school bus by these very black-skinned guys who were taking us somewhere and trying to get us to renounce our belief in Christ. And I kept countering everything they said with Scripture and my own beliefs, and I don't remember much of what was said, but I remember standing up and saying, "I'M GOING TO HEAVEN!!!" which really ticked the guy off and so he started hitting his gun on the metal poles that were there, and it broke. And I was thinking, "Well, at least now he can't shoot us... But what if he has a knife or something?" The whole time I wasn't afraid, I remember that... Then we got to our destination, which was a gravel road in the middle of nowhere, and it's actually kinda hard to explain without drawing it out... but there was the road we were on, a road that went perpendicular to our road, then another road that went parallel to ours just a little ways down. What the men did with all the people was they got us to line up, and they shot people in the head one at a time, then lied them on the ground beside the road next to each other. And I didn't feel any fear until I got to the line, but I remember praying for these people, praying that God would touch these men and get them to just punch them instead of shooting them. Then it was my turn, and I was shot right in the forehead. And I woke up cuz I heard my mom in the shower. But when I fell back to sleep, I was still in the same dream, I was lying on the ground still alive, and all these people gathered around me with black eyes to say that God had answered my prayer and they were all punched instead of shot. I was soooo glad! Then I died. I died in my dream. It was weird! Makes me wonder.....

So, as for my dreams of the future... I dream of one day being a youth pastor, being there for kids to come to and talk about their problems. I've been through so many issues of my own - parents fighting and separating, death of a parent, not have a biological dad around, suicidal thoughts, relationships, sexuality, etc... - and I want to be able to help the next generation of youth. Cuz it's hard having to tough it out without help! And that's not to say that I'd have all the answer, cuz I don't, nobody really does! But I want to be there for kids, to walk along beside them in their journey, to help them figure out their own stuff.

I also dream of having a family one day. I dream of getting married in my church, possibly with Karen and Al doing the service, of my mom walking me down the aisle, of "Green Apples" by Chantal Kreviazuk being the first-dance song, of my mom making a speech and probably bawling her eyes out lol... I'm not sure if that's how it'll all turn out when that day comes, but I can always dream... =)

My Siblings

Simply put, I do not have any biological siblings. But I have a few people whom I consider sisters or brothers.

Georgio has been a "sister best friend thing" to me for many years. We've been through a lot together, with our parents, school stuff, relationships, spirituality... There are many memories made with her that I will always cherish =) Her family as well has pretty much accepted me as part of the family, to a certain extent of course lol!

Shayani is very much a sister to me too. We've had some pretty deep conversations about many things, mostly about God and our Christian faith. We've been through a lot spiritually together as well, ups and downs, and I believe that is what has brought us together and helped our relationship to grow. Her family as well has accepted me in and have had a lot of influence on my life.

I don't really have any male friends that I consider brothers in a close-knit gone-through-tough-stuff-together kind of way, but there are Nat and Zach that I consider brothers just in the way we act when we hang out. More so in a way that their parents have been parent-figures to me, and even in the way we act towards each other. You know how brothers and sisters often pick on each other, but in a loving kind of way? That's how we are. And it's awesome =)

Challenge Day 3

Well, I seem to have forgotten to post yesterday... Or rather, I did not forget, but I did not get to it... So, here I am this morning doing yesterday's, perhaps later on I'll do today's... I'm babysitting Liam the velociraptor, pretty cool kid lol! =)

So onwards! My parents. My mom is pretty cool I suppose haha... We've had our ups and downs, but we're doing well now. Although I'm sure with the news I have to tell her, she won't be too happy, but that's another story for another time... Anyways, although my mom hasn't always been there for me, especially through the years when I needed it, I still love her with all my heart and I have great respect for her.

My biological father is not in the picture, and I don't want to write about him. My step-dad Wayne, however, was my Daddy. I didn't always like him, apparently cuz I subconsciously thought he was taking my mom away from me (they met when I was 9, married when I was 12), but over the years I grew to love him. He was diagnosed with lung cancer the summer of 2004, was given 6 months to live, and that's about what it took. He died January 3, 2005, the winter before I graduated high school. I went through a lot after he died, especially in my walk with God. I had a lot of anger towards God, because I had finally had a dad, and He took him away. Luckily though, I was able to work through a lot of that anger, and even now I can see that because I was able to love Wayne as a dad, I could now love God as Father.

Anyways, I am supposed to be watching this little guy lol although he is amusing himself quite well with his toys... =P Until later!

Challenge Day 2

Hmmm, my vices...

Well, I guess the most obvious one is my cell phone. I don't go anywhere without my BlackBerry CrackBerry, and you can often find me checking my Facebook, MSN, or reading/sending texts. I don't enjoy talking on the phone, and so my main connection to my friends - besides face to face - is through texting/Facebook/MSN/BBM/etc...

Aaaaand it's really late and I'm falling asleep as I type, so this will have to do for today...

30-Day Challenge

My friend Jaclyn is starting a 30-Day Challenge on her blog, and it looks pretty cool and I think I'll do it too. I'll keep the list at the bottom of each Challenge blog.

The first day is "Your Best Friend." I don't really have one single best friend, but I have a few friends who are really close. I suppose if I had to pick just one, right now, I would pick Dennis. Even though we've had our ups and downs (AKA dating, breaking up, dealing with the awkwardness...), he is my closest friend and I feel like I could tell him anything =) Even when I was working through some stuff lately, he's been the person I've talked to about it. Although I'm not entirely sure how he feels about what I've been working through... But even with that, we kinda talked about it, cuz he wanted to know if it was his fault, which it isn't.

And I love being there for him too! Lately he's been working through some stuff too, and although I can't really do much to help, I can be there for him as support, someone to talk to, someone to encourage him to keep going.

Anyways, I gotta get back to work, so that's about all I'll write about today...

Short Update!

Wow, life sure has been busy lately! Work is going well, life in general is going well, and I'm enjoying it! =)

My mom's birthday was two days ago, and I threw her a surprise party at my place. Well, sorta... She knew she was coming over and I would make her dinner, but what she didn't know was that there were other people here to celebrate too! But it almost turned out bad! The plan was she would come over for about 2pm, and we'd all hang out and play cards, and I'd make dinner. Everything was going so well leading up to the day, the food was all bought and prepped and everything, plans were all set... Then my mom called me at like 1:15 and says, "So, I'm sitting at the St James clinic..." and I'm thinking, oh no she's sick and not coming... =( and she goes on to say, "I dropped a full tub of honey on my baby toe and I think I broke it..." and I'm thinking, oh no she's not gonna get here til like 5 and she'll be in a cast... =S

As it turns out, doctor says her toe is probably just badly bruised, and even if it was broken, they wouldn't be able to do anything for it anyways because it's her baby toe... So she ended up getting to my place at about 3:30, and it all worked out anyways. So happy birthday Mommy, I love you!!! =)

In other news!!! I met a new friend! =) Her name is Alisha, and I met her online actually! We've been chatting a lot in these past few days on Skype, and last night we got together and met in person. We met up at Riverside Inn and played a few games a pool (I totally kicked her butt haha... =P), then we headed back to my place and watched Finding Nemo and Phantom of the Opera, 'twas good times! =) She's coming to To Change A Life on Friday at Southlands with me, so that's pretty cool, and we're getting together on Saturday too, woohoo! =)

So I think that's about all for now... I gotta jump in the shower and head to bed soon, I've had too many late nights lately... =P Until next time! =)

"You Are Always There" by Stephan Lepage

You see right through me
You feel all my pain when I cry
You hold me, console me
You wipe all the tears from my eyes

I will give it all, nothing short of everything
I will lose my life to find life in You, my King
When all else has failed, I will look to You
Cuz You are always there, You're my strength and my refuge
You are always there

You know all my faults
My frame is before Your eyes
I need You, You love me
I value You more than my life

I will give it all, nothing short of everything
I will lose my life to find life in You, my King
When all else has failed, I will look to You
Cuz You are always there, You're my strength and my refuge
You are always there

Even in all Your glory
You remembered me
Even in all Your power
You still cared for me
Omniscient God, eternal Friend
You are with me til the end

I will give it all, nothing short of everything
I will lose my life to find life in You, my King
When all else has failed, I will look to You
Cuz You are always there, You're my strength and my refuge
